I don’t know about you, but looming financial world crisis has had me tightening my belt if you know what I mean. So Halloween this year won’t be as splashy as it could have been. Rather I am going to be my usual bargain hunting self to try and get some Halloween deals, discounts and bargains. My search for random and interesting things for Halloween this year yielded the following results:

This inflatable Halloween tombstone (with a purple bat, no less) tickled my fancy; it’s just such a fun and silly thing to have lying around. And I’m thinking that festooning this with some strategically placed blood stains would just about enhance the effect! The fact that it’s on a 75% discount down to ten dollars from forty of course has nothing to do with it! And when I’m done playing with it on Halloween, this can be a rather unusual pool float to have around!

I don’t know whether I like the bacon and eggs outfit combo more or whether I like the plug and socket outfit combo more. Bacon and eggs may be my absolute fave breakfast in the world, but there is something hugely funny (even if a little suggestive and lewd) about the plug and socket. I think I’ll leave the decision of whether the rashers and sunny side up is a better idea than the other, to my significant other… And just by the way they have more of the combo variety of outfit: there is the fork and spoon costume set, and a lot of other popular costume choices (you know Julius Caesar and so on?)

One of the Halloween features that I find so enjoyable is the fact that you can be as over the top as you want and this over-the-topness is easily achieved with some exaggerated facial hair of which I found a huge range here. For instance your basic Charlie Chaplain moustache and eyebrows or a similar combo harking back to Groucho Marx is just 6 dollars. For the same amount of money you can get come bushy beards and other stuff.

Buy costumes is a site that I found had much to offer. They have costumes for teens, kids and adults, they have hats, wigs and masks, and they have party supplies, decorations and props, makeup and other accessories. And they have pet costumes as well, in case you were wondering! And you can shop as per your budget (under $10, under $20 and so on)

So Happy Halloween in advance all!

There are people who leave their all to their pets – their pets were the thing they loved most and possibly they were the people that their pets loved most in the world – unstinting, unconditional and unreserved love the variety of which it is difficult to find in human relationships. So certainly there is a reason why pets can be very, very dear to a person, particularly if they don’t have any nice relatives.

But it always occurred to me; what is a pet to do with all that money and so I am constrained to ask the owner – WHAT were you thinking!

There are different estimates about who is the richest pet in the world and a latest report published about the richest pets in the world spoke of a German Shepherd, called Gunther IV who inherited $372 million, from his father Gunther III, who made it rich after his owner Countess Karlotta Libenstein of Germany passed away.

One Frankie, a lucky mansion-living dog from San Diego who is worth a cool $5.3 million! Frankie’s owner passed away and roped in a neighbor to look after the dog. I wonder who cleans the mansion.

Then there is Kalu the Chimp who is reportedly worth about $80 million after Patricia O’Neill passed away. O’Neill’s husband wasn’t overly fond of Kalu and the apprehension that Kalu would be homeless after her, made her leave him a very rich chimp indeed.

Oprah Winfrey is one of the biggest fortunes in showbiz and much of this, will go to her dogs when she passes on. According to estimates, her pooches will be richer by a cool $30 million when the chat show hostess passes on to the great TV show in the sky.

Then there are some very rich cats in existence thanks to their kooky owners – British comedienne and actress Beryl Reid left her 1.8 dollar estate to her cats who frolicked in great luxury after she passed away. Tinker the cat also inherited a very sizeable sum from Margret Layne, and another cat inherited 13 million USD from a British man called Ben Rea.

And why stop at felines and canine or indeed any mammals? There is also a hen who is very rich indeed – Gigoo the hen had a very different life than the kind most chickens who grace our dinner tables ever had. Gigoo inherited 10 million pounds after the wife of millionaire Miles Blackwell died.

And then there is the self made millionaire animal – a killer whale who didn’t inherit but made a lot of money – Keiko the killer whale from Free Willy is worth an estimated 23 million pounds sterling.

Those are some rich animals indeed – and I am moved to ask yet again – what do they do with all that money?

Greetings Peeps – today I wanted to do a really random post about fun, random things, that you want for yourself or think will make great off beat gifts for the right kind of person. Some of them I really want to get for myself and some I know are going to make great gifts for some people I know who have a sense of humor.

Homer Simpson has to be the most popular adult cartoon figure that there is and in spite of his uncouthness, his selfishness and his lack of smarts he has endeared himself to the viewing public like no one else. I can think of a lot of people who would enjoy wearing these boxer shorts, which says “Never enough days” in the front and “in the weekend” on the rear.

Now don’t ask me why but I think these fun glasses are just that; fun! Now why anyone would want their eye glasses to be checkered or have words on them is anyone’s guess, but they’re a conversation piece, wouldn’t you say? Similarly these mini duckies that light up in the dark are also super cute.

One of the most useless things that I can think of is eyelashes for a car – I mean this is laugh out loud stupid, and so it is only fitting that it is being sold over at stupid.com. Just by the way, they are supposed to express emotions (presumably the car’s) and keep the sun out of the eyes (again the car’s) and so on. Reindeer costumes and car moustache are other add ons for the car that you may want to consider, available at the same stupid site.

Joe cartoon toilet paper should help ease some difficult passages in your life – pun intended. You are encouraged to read and rip and then share the joke with your bum. And as if we needed any warning, we are told that the jokes are dirty, duh!

A boyfriend pillow is actually something that I know someone who can use. It has an arm, a hand and a chest to help you simulate the real thing.

I am going to go stupid shopping now, and hope you enjoy it too!

Anyone who is a regular reader here will know that I love novelty gifts or any kind of offbeat gifts or ideas and a rather risqué gift I received recently inspired me to do one more post about interesting and unusual gifts.

Now here I found a bunch of really useless but highly entertaining stuff, such as an inflatable Bra bath pillow, some rather creative dice, furry handcuffs etc….

Someone with the right kind of sense of humor will really be amused by this inflatable bra bath pillow. For someone who likes the idea of resting their head on a pair of D cups in the bath! For $4.95, a bit of laugh isn’t it!

Now love dice could be just the thing to light a spark for that little something that went missing in a relationship. These glow in the dark dice, has a bunch of commands (and positions as well in case you are interested) that could just make things very interesting indeed! Priced at just 3.95, well one can certainly afford a bit of slap and tickle…. And there’s also some furry handcuffs ($5 per pair) and some strip tease pens ($3 for men and for women) if you are so inclined.

Novelties wholesale is subdivided into some pretty wacky categories: there’s fake money, fake teeth, flashing items, pranks and hold your breath, fart items; the list goes on!

Check out the fake Obama money. You can get yourself 100 bills for $19.95 and just for extra fun you can get yourself some $8 bills as well!

Now I really don’t know what sophomoric sense of humor thought of this one but apparently there is a market out there for fart whistles. Apparently it is hilariously funny when someone blows on these to make fake fart sounds. $ 5 of your hard earned cash for a dozen of these.

Now these are something called spatter back toys. You throw these on the ground and they kind of spatter or get squished and then you just pick them up and they regain their shape. Reasonably disgusting sounding, but I do know people who would find this fascinating…

Well there’s no accounting for taste after all…..

The festive season is the season of giving and I believe that it should be about giving not only to those whom we love and cherish but also to those who are less privileged than us. If you can make a stranger smile with your thoughtfulness then you have indeed got into the true festive spirit! You can donate money or even time to a charity or a worthy cause.

One idea that we had, and which we plan to put into practice this festive season is to buy toys at wholesale prices to distribute among foster homes and/or schools for the underprivileged. We have not got the details worked out yet, but we were thinking toys such as those available here, some outdoor game toys, some educational aids or board games etc. If you are looking for some nice children’s gifts at good discounts, you may want to take a look here as well.

While we should be thinking about our less fortunate brethren in the season of good cheer, we should also be sparing a thought for the environment. Here I found a great compilation of ‘green’ gift ideas, such as Carbon offsets, national park passes, organic gifts, recycled gifts. There are even some excellent ideas for gift wrapping and table settings.

Okay I am done thinking about others and the earth and the less privileged. Here are some more gift ideas that I really liked: Chocolate and wine! Those I think are the all time traditional favorites! I loved this basket of goodies that comes with your choice of the top champagnes: Dom Perignon or Moet & Chandon and several edible delicacies as well. You can splurge on someone that you want to impress because this isn’t cheap at $169.95.

Now I love Godiva chocolates don’t you? I think I will probably gift myself this sinful collection of Godiva’s Dark Chocolate Almonds, Milk Chocolate Domes with Hazelnut Praline, Signature Biscuits, Milk Chocolate Strawberries, Dark Chocolate Caramel Bars, Milk Chocolate Pearls, and Extra Dark Chocolate Truffle Domes for $39.95. For some more chocolate and wine gift baskets, some at a discount as well, look here.

And let me sign off this post with one more really offbeat and interesting gift idea: you can get a caricature made (of someone with a sense of humor, mind; may not be for everyone). Look here to see how you can have a photo transformed into a caricature. You can even use the caricatures for holiday cards! Great idea I thought!

If you are a regular reader here, you will know that I am always on the lookout for offbeat, unusual or wacky gift ideas. All at a discount of course! Now my significant other and I are celebrating an anniversary of sorts, and I certainly did not want to get him the usual wallet, tie, belt, cologne kind of gift. I fear that these lack imagination and also he does not need them (he still has a cologne that I gave him 7 years ago!).

Now one of the ideas I had was to gift him a blog. I was thinking that since this anniversary of ours is a few weeks away, I would start a blog now, and write down my thoughts about him, our relationship, about us as a couple, what he means to me and how important he is to me every day, day to day and then gift that to him, to continue it or to just read as my tribute to ‘us’. Although free in terms of money, this will cost me a lot in terms of time and effort; make no mistake it is a very valuable gift!

One of the things that my significant other enjoys the most is growing things; in fact he has a real green thumb. So I thought I would take him plant shopping, and let him indulge his nurturing instinct.

Then I discovered this site called thinkgeek.com, which has the best, most whacky and really interesting gift ideas:

Did you know that just water could run a desk top clock for you? Well check out this water powered clock that doubles as a flower vase for just 12.99.

Now this one may not be for everyone; it is a personal soundtrack shirt. This is a “wearable audio solution that features a working speaker embedded into the front of the shirt. When you push the appropriate button on the pocketable remote you get music or sound effects appropriate for any situation… everything from drum roll, to cat call whistle, to western showdown.” Interesting? Will cost you $39,99.

Seeing how gadget ruled we are, this power squid is something that a lot of guys would love! This thingie has 5 grounded adapter-ready outlets, 4 foot power cord, Yellow lighted master switch with 15-amp circuit breaker. Cool for $12.99!

Are these good ideas or what! Let me have your thoughts…..

EBay and Amazon are arguably the largest virtual markets in the world and you can get yourself practically anything that you need from there. However there is a lot of stuff available that you may certainly never need. Read on to take a look at some of the really bizarre things that come up on eBay from time to time. I found some of them on a blog that I read regularly, Jennyhow.com.

I don’t know whether it is a celebrity fixation gone out of control or just a twisted desire of the perverted mind that wants to buy Michael Jackson’s soiled underwear, but a pair of MJ’s underpants are to be sold on eBay and the reserve price set is, get this, ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Why this is twisted or perverted is not because this is the used underwear of a pop star but because the size 28 Calvin Klein tighty-whities, are the same ones that were confiscated in 2003 by the Santa Barabara DA. This was done when they needed a DNA sample of Jackson’s to use as evidence in the child molestation case against him. If you have one million plus dollars, this item will be sent to you duly sealed with police tape. Oh and if you are interested, there is also up for grabs the handwritten annulment from ex wife Lisa Marie Presley and a used tube of skin bleaching cream. Ugh!

Then here is another bizarre one: In a unique revenge bid, a wife whose husband cheated on her, made a listing for sale, a picture of lacy black panties and an empty condom wrapper “Size small”. Apparently she found these in her bed, where her adulterous husband slept with another woman. The listing bears this title “Empty condom packet & a photo of ‘The Tart’s’ knickers,” and this description: “They are so huge I thought they may make someone a nice shawl or, even better, something for Halloween perhaps.” Gosh! Now you know what he meant when the good bard said Hell hath no fury like a Woman Scorned! And just FYI it got more than 60 bids!

If you like weird eBay listings, go here to see the blog devoted to all things weird and bizarre on eBay, such as a two headed cow, human teeth, skull in a bowling ball, antique glass eyes, human souls, a smiling flower, a slice of toast that has a silhouette of a yeti, a potato chip with a cross in it, a mummified fairy; the list goes on….

Have you ever thrown a party with a mixed group of attendees and had trouble getting them to interact? It can be a daunting task to get guests who have just met to mingle with each other. Yet, it needs to be accomplished since the success of your party depends on it.

I found a site that offers something that can be a great conversation starter. This site offers great wine glasses, beer mugs, coffee mugs, highball glasses, champagne glasses etc with small phrases and witty messages etched on them. The variety is huge according to the theme you may desire. Each set has four different phrases based on a theme, with the set of four of any variety available at $48. If you buy all three sets of any type, you are charged a discounted rate of $129 (a discount of $15 – thats just me, I have to look for discounts everywhere).

Here is a sample of some of the phrases on the etched glass – Drama Queen, Desperate Housewife, The Boss, Confused, Scholar, Big Shot, Hottie, Diva, Available, Taken, Chick Magnet, Gossip Queen, American Idle, Old Fart – you get the drift? You really must check out the site. There are a lot of themes including holidays, sports and even jewish.

You can even get a custom set made, but of course, the price goes up. Though that may not be necessary considering their huge collection. My favorite is their wine glass sets of the Fun and Flirty category. I think I’m gonna get some of those.

So get your guests to break the ice and make your parties a grand success.

If you read my last post then you know that this one is a sequel. I did some of the best adverts or commercials then and now I want to see if I can find some really bad ones!

Straightaway we come to this self-explanatory site which claims to bring you the dumbest ads.

This ad is apparently for toilet paper, why it has a dog and cucumber slices could be anyone’s guess.

“I drove a co worker home. To my place” OK so far, but this is an ad for hair color!

These ones here are actually one line classified ads but really funny:

Lost: Small apricot poodle. Reward. Neutered like one of the family.

Dinner Special: Turkey $2.35; Chicken or Beef $2.25; Children $2.00.

For Sale: Antique desk suitable for lady with thick legs and large drawers.

Now is your chance to have your ears pierced and get an extra pair to take home too!

No matter what your topcoat is made of, this miracle spray will make it really repellent.

For Sale: Eight puppies from a German Shepherd and an Alaskan Hussy.

Dog for Sale: Eats anything and is fond of children.

Tired of cleaning yourself? Let me do it!

Man, honest. Will take anything.

Used Cars: Why go elsewhere to be cheated? Come here first!

Our bikinis are exciting. They are simply the tops.

Auto Repair Service: Try us once — you’ll never go anywhere else again.

Wanted: Preparer of food. Must like the food business, be dependable, and be willing to get hands dirty.

Mixing bowl set designed to please a cook with round bottom for efficient beating.

And now, the Superstore — unequaled in size, unmatched in variety, unrivaled inconvenience.

Then here is a really dumb one for Old Spice:

And this one for a Mercedes Benz is actually really funny, not dumb at all but does feature a dumb blonde, so here goes:

Check out these super dumb product warnings on this page. You cannot stop reading till you reach the end.

As for the stupidest commercial in recent times, I would have to say it is the Absolut vodka commercial, which shows Texas and California (among other US states) as being part of Mexico. Admittedly this was an ad aimed at Mexicans but it has managed to piss of the Americans to the extent that the advert has been recalled, unconditional apologies issued, etc.

Talk about ‘absolutely’ shooting yourself in the foot! Your views? Let me have them!

One aspect of making money that I have not covered so far is advertising. And advertising is such an important element of selling any product or service. If there were no advertising or commercials no one would have any information about what is available in the market and the buyer and the consumer would both be the poorer for it! Let’s take a look today at some of the best ads that I could find and then maybe next time we can take a look at the worst ones around (no dearth of those I’m sure)!

Personally I have more admiration for print ads or still commercials because they are able to convey their message with just one image, and therefore have to be more creative to create the maximum impact. Video ads on the other hand have more time and can use different mediums to get across their message. I surveyed quite a few sites and picked some that I really liked to share here with you. Please click on the thumbnail to view a larger image.

Here are some that I really liked from this site:

Very unique use for a post-it, remember the name of the person you slept with last night!

This UNICEF ad says “Everyone needs a family” and that slightly expectant look on the child’s face is a little heartrending!

I am not sure that I really like to see teeth in an ear but it is effective in the message it tries to convey, “Hungry for music?”

This site had the following interesting ones:

This one simply says “It’s sugar free”. Really simple and really clever!

This one is for Western Union Money Transfer and you immediately get the message that you can send the money from here to there really easily and only one word is used! Brilliant.

This site had lots of intelligent ones; some of them I didn’t quite get but I really liked these:

This WWF one is meant to convey that 15 square kilometer of rain forest disappears every minute. Poor ole Tarzan, probably caught short mid-yell there!

Olivia Women’s magazine is for women with attitude so this one tells you “heaven is full, no need to be nice”. You know what they say, Good girls go to heaven, and bad girls go everywhere!

I found this site from Digg, and is in a language that I do not recognize much less read, but the pictures speak for themselves:

As a rule I do not like AXE ads (loser being chased by gorgeous women, like some silly wet dream), but this one is almost subtle so I did.

This one draws attention to the great inequality in the world and tells you that you have the chance to redress it somewhat.

As far as I can tell, this one is for some diet food: Sharon Stone with a twist!

Hope you enjoyed these, I know I did!
