With growing competition, it is essential for one and all to keep on their toes and keep improving their skillsets, maybe also get higher education in their fields and get more degrees to follow their names. With online education and eLearning, this has become far simpler with drawbacks like commute, time, distance and giving up your job being done away with. Terms such as CBT (Computer Based Training), IBT (Internet Based Training) or WBT (Web Based Training) are also commonly used in place of eLearning or taking online courses.

E-learning includes all forms of electronically supported learning and teaching. You can find information on various online courses and degree programs in almost all subjects and vocations. You can find online degree programs in music and aviation too apart form the regular subjects. Research suggests that today more than 40 per cent of post-secondary students in the USA were taking some or all of their courses online. Such is the power and convenience of eLearning.

For the students who need help with their education fees, they can apply for aid here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Get help to pay for your college fees and then one can more than repay with the increase in income after one has completed their course.

My niece is visiting from Manchester. She just completed medical school. Yesterday, she mentioned about now beginning to look for a job in a reputable hospital. She was lining up interviews and meetings and was pretty nervous about them if I may say so. She spent an entire evening at the computer researching and preparing.

Apparently a lot goes into preparing for the real world as a doctor. It’s not just about getting through medical school. There are many courses and seminars and help websites that help people preapre for just that. Interviews, seminars, lectures, you name it!

This site has 1 day and 3 day medical management courses. Their medical interview course trains you to face any interviewer with ease, confidence and absolute panache!

Their consultant interview courses are ideal for senior doctors and practitioners. It is not only the fresh graduates who need this kind of help. It can be a value addition to any doctor at any stage of his career. And if you are senior enough to give lectures and discourses, their teach the teacher course might just be the one for you. And the prices are pretty competitive I migth add. For the value addition provided, and considering the income of a doctor, the prices are at an appropriate level.

So my niece has her future plans chalked out for as soon as she is back in Manchester. Which course she finally decides to take amongst the numerous available, is something I will know in due course of time. I wish her all the best in her career and life. May she lead a life of kindness and care, and provide healing to thousands in need.

They say that New Year resolutions, made with such a firmness of purpose rarely last beyond the month of January. But they also say that well begun is half done; if you do make any resolutions, persist with them and then you will see results for sure! I don’t generally make any resolutions, simply decide to do some things differently in the coming year than I did earlier. So this year I plan to….

Ride my bike more: I am going to ride the bike to go to the store to get things, and run other errands. This will help me two fold, I will use the car less and thus save me a lot in terms of fuel. It will also help me to get a nice little work out since I often find myself so strapped for time that I can’t go for walks the way I like to do.

Avoid unnecessary spending: Credit card late fees are something that must be avoided at all costs. They are completely unnecessary (except for the credit card companies) and all it takes is to keep a track of your spending and due dates. I am going to watch those statements real close. And I am going to be even more of a bargain hunter; so stay tuned to this blog peeps!

Going to get organized: Sometimes it seems as though I am going around in circles getting nothing accomplished. Well I am now going to make a timetable and allot time to different activities and stick to this timetable. One thing that I will pay a lot of attention to is putting things away in an organized manner so that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. This will help save time spent searching for things.

Enjoy life more: There is no point in working hard if I don’t take time out to play. So I am going to make a conscious effort to learn new things, have new experiences, do stuff I never have before, travel to exotic locations and do all the things that I enjoy doing and that help me grow as a person.

Are any of you out there making New Year resolutions? I would love to know them and if they are weird or fanciful, so much the better! Let’s have them!

I finished reading my regular blogs and every time I visit stephenfung.net, I end up feeling hungry and longing for some tasty treats, so you can say that it was Stephen Fung that inspired me to do this post.

Ok the reason that I am such a great cook (so I have been told repeatedly; it’s not just my own conceit speaking), is for two reasons: I love good food and I am self taught. If there is a particular dish that I like to eat, I teach myself to cook it. And there is this incredible resource which gives you every recipe you can possibly dream of and that is the World Wide Web. For years now, I have not bought a recipe book; simply because any recipe that I want I can find on the internet free of charge! And the really good thing is that you can browse by cuisine, calorie, snacks, desert, main course or just about any criterion.

So you have the weight watchers recipes, some nice saliva inducing ones here, which even includes a pizza recipe! Then they have a point system which helps you calculate what is your daily allowance and how to keep within that in order to lose weight.

Here as well I found some very delicious looking and healthy recipes, including, whole-wheat wraps, sprout sandwiches etc., but I kept feeling that something was missing. I soon realized what it was that was missing: meat. It is a vegetarian site so be warned. There are some useful resources here about baby food, a calorie counter, info about how much fat you need to consume and why, so good site all in all.

If I were asked to pick my favorite cuisine, it would have to be Italian and Chinese, I can’t choose. I loved this Italian food site, with its main coursed, soups, breads, cakes and yes I really recommend their chocolate mousse recipe: tried, tested, tasted and digested!

I thought this was a good comprehensive Chinese recipe site, well subdivided into the different meats, salads, soup, rice, noodles, dim sum, sauces and marinades etc. I am so inspired with all this reading about every imaginable recipe, that I am just heading to the kitchen to whip up some hot and sour soup which sounds really delicious!

The Olympics came and went, and I thought I should mark the summer games by doing a post about the deals and discounts available on sporting items to see if we can’t mobilize ourselves to get up and into a sport or activity of some sort.

I maintain that cycling is one of the best ways to get around and stay fit. It is a habit you can start your kids off on at an early age and I thought this Girls BMX bike would be something that any little girl would love to have and I thought $82.99 is a really good price (about a 16% discount). This mountain bike is available for a 24% discount at $189.99 and many others; see the whole range here.

Another thing with Bikes is you can even use them for commuting to work by considerably extending their range by fitting them with one of these electric bicycle kits, from $349 up. Here’s a great idea: use the electric mode to get to work so you don’t get all sweaty and then pedal back giving yourself a nice old work out!

Another fitness idea that I really like is that of a jogger stroller like this one, no using the baby as an excuse not to get going and back into shape. These jogger strollers in different colors I really liked at $140.99 (at a good 53 % discount).

This site offers you a 10% discount on your purchase if you sign up right now. They have a well laid out site, with options such as Foot wear and apparel (they urge you to support your team by getting the jersey and defending the turf), Exercise, Team Sports, Action Sports, Golf, Raquet Sports, Winter sports, Water Sports, Outdoors and Rec Room. There is also free shipping if the order is over a certain amount.

Now where golf is concerned, I subscribe to Mark Twain’s point of view, Golf is a good walk spoilt but it does have its merits I have to admit and when you have a golf set available for a 68% discount such as this 16 piece golf set for $199.99, I would be tempted to take it up. There are a lot of very interesting golf related items here, which are well worth checking out.

I hope I gave you some inspiration to get going?

Well I am a blogger right? So needless to say, language interests me greatly, and I like to think that I have a not inconsiderable vocabulary (I know words like eldritch, egregious, pasquinade and I could go on but I don’t want to show off ). Now I know that this has nothing to do with bargain hunting and great prices here, but the fact is that there are all these FREE resources out there, that if you don’t know about, you can’t take advantage of, and that would be a shame now, wouldn’t it? For instance, all these resources will save you having to ever buy another dictionary or thesaurus again, so that is a great saving!

There are a lot of online resources that can help us to improve our vocabulary and language skills, all for free. Did you, for instance, know that you can improve your vocabulary by signing up to receive a word and its meaning everyday delivered daily to your email inbox? One word, along with its meaning, origin, usage, variations, pronunciation (including audio pronunciation) is emailed to you each day. You can sign up to receive the word of the day here, and also browse to find the meaning of any word. Wordsmith.org has a similar daily newsletter which teaches you a word a day and has an anagram server as well.

Reference.com is a great site which offers dictionary and thesaurus facilities besides a whole host of other features like a multilingual dictionary, games and puzzles, grammar and usage and other language dictionaries as well.

Another free English Dictionary with instant sound is this one, which is a great way to know exactly how to pronounce difficult words that we sometimes know the meaning of but are reluctant to use in actual speech because we don’t know how they are pronounced.

Now another way to exercise both your mind and keep your language skills up to date is to do crossword puzzles and I do a puzzle from here whenever I have the time. It is neither too difficult nor too easy and best of all if you can’t solve a clue, you have the option getting the answer instantly. Not ‘getting’ one can be really frustrating you know!

Of course you should do that which is best for improving language skills, read! Not only does reading increase the fund of your knowledge, it is the single best way to improve language. I have said it before, reading is perhaps the best habit that we can pass on to our children as well!
