Every now and again, I feel the need to indulge myself and by that I mean indulge my sense of smell. Beautiful smells are something that can transform the ordinary into the sublime and can really elevate one’s state of mind. I do think that smell is so very evocative – helping us recall events, persons, places, dates etc with startling clarity and delighting us anew.

I have some favorite fragrances but this doesn’t mean that I am reluctant to splash out on something new (literally and figuratively).

I was recently introduced to a classic fragrance by a friend, Anais Anais by Cacharel. I tried it on for a day and smelled wonderful the entire day (remember to try out a perfume on your own skin – it can smell so different on someone else) and was convinced that I had to get it for myself. This is a day time perfume with a blend of cedar, leather, gardenia, jasmine and lily of the valley. I found the perfume cheaper here even than Amazon. So this then is going to be one of my indulgences in the near future.

There is this young nephew I have, who is a real outdoorsy kind and who is due to get a major present from me (it’s a deal that we made a while back but that is another story). In any case I think it is a great idea for kids to spend more time out   of doors and away from TVs, computers, X boxes and other electronic equipment. With the summer upon us, some of the must buys in everyone’s shopping list are sunscreens, shades, shorts…and Hats!! I must admit I wasn’t much of a hat person, but after seeing ladies don some awesome headgear in the last derby season, methinks I’m gonna get myself some head turning hats too! I have to confess I don’t know that much about photography, but I like, as much as the next person, to be able to point and shoot and to capture scenes, memories, priceless moments and expressions for all time to come. And I have to admit that my present digital camera is now really not cutting it. So share in my quest to buy a new digital camera that is easy to use, inexpensive, and is good value for money. It’s not multi mega pixel that is important to me, but it should be easy to use and give good results.

With the summer time upon us, I decided to buy myself a new pair of shades. And as usual, I decided to try online before taking the trouble to buy from a brick and mortar store. And I definitely do not regret it!

Shopwiki has an amazing range of sunglasses to choose from. What is more, they have a very helpful guide to help you choose the right one for you. I have used shades with polarized lenses before and can swear by the huge difference it makes to the comfort of your eyes, especially while driving. The reduction in glare is a huge plus when it comes to driving at night.

Buying sunglasses with good UV protection is a no brainer. Everyone knows that. But it helps to know that apart from the relatively well known polarized, mirrored or gradient lenses, there is also an option of photochromic lenses. The thing with electronic items is that the better they get, the more quickly previous models become obsolete. When we bought our DVD player about 5 to 6 years back, we didn’t think how important it was going to become, to have a DVD player with USB support. As of now, we download films and have the option of watching them on the limited little screen of the computer or laptop or undergoing the labors of writing a CD and then playing it on the DVD (if the DVD player supports that particular format that is).

So basically I am looking to upgrade our DVD player.

I found this Samsung – Internet Connectable/Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Disc Player which I thought was a good deal  at 188 dollars, which is down from 250 dollars. This one is internet connectable with Wi Fi.
