Top 10 Richest Men in the World

My readers will likely know that I like to keep a tab on the richest/most powerful and most influential people in the world. Not that I am very likely to rub shoulders with them any time soon, I just like to be well informed. When I looked for the list of the richest men in the world, I found few surprises – most of the usual suspects populate the list of the richest in the world which goes something like this:

The richest man in the world made his fortune in communications, technology, retailing, and finance. Currently he is chairman and CEO of the companies Telmex and América Móvil. He is worth 69 billion dollars.

Bill GatesBill Gates continues to be one of the richest in the world. The man who created the global IT giant Microsoft is as well known for his philanthropic ventures and is worth $ 61 billion. He was the richest man in the world for years and continues to be the richest American.

Warren BuffettIt’s clearly a case of birds of a feather: Warren Buffet, Gates’ very good friend is next on the list of richest men in the world. One of the most influential people in the world, the “Sage of Omaha” is known for his frugality.

Bernard ArnaultThe fourth richest man in the world is Bernard Arnault of France. He is a business magnate and art collector with a personal worth of $41 billion.

Amancia OrtegaAmancio Ortega of Spain is 5th on the list of the world’s richest men in 2012. This self made billionaire is worth more than $37 billion as of last year, but his personal fortune is estimated to be closer to 58 billion as on January 2013.

Larry Ellison of the Oracle Corporation from the United States is at no 6 on the list with his personal fortune of $36 billion.

Eike Batista of Brazil of the EBX Group is at no 7 on the list with a personal worth of $30 billion.

Stefan Persson of Sweden of the H & M Group is listed at no 8 on the list of richest men in the world with a fortune of $26 billion.

Li Ka-shing of Cheung Kong Holding is from Hong Kong and is next on the list with a fortune of over 25 billion dollars.

Karl Albrecht of Germany is the 10th richest man in the world in 2012 with his personal fortune of $25 billion.
