E Book Reader – My New Money Saving Idea

I love reading and read pretty much anything I can lay my hands on – fiction, non-fiction, magazines (even the ancient ones gracing the dentist’s waiting room table), travel and product brochures, you name it.

I have shelves and shelves in the home, all groaning with books and yet more books looking for a home. So if ever there was a person who was in ideal candidate for an E Book Reader it is me.

There are many reasons why the e book reader makes sense and can help me save money –

  • There is the obvious benefit that I don’t have to buy any more books means that there is a lot of saving (to the environment) in terms of paper, ink and power required to make a book.
  • There are a lot of books that are available online, that can be downloaded free of charge. And in very many cases, the electronic version of a book is much cheaper than the actual paper book. This is because the publisher also saves a lot of money – he doesn’t have to print, and bind the book, he doesn’t have to ship it to a store, there is no need for a bricks and mortar store, its overheads, people to be employed in the store and so on. No wonder the publishers are willing to pass on some of this saving on to the consumer!
  • I will save money not having to keep on buying new shelves in the home to stock books since I can load literally thousands of books on the e book reader. Also when I travel I will have to carry one less bag – the book bag (since I can never decide which two books to carry I end up carrying about 7 per trip; now however I would have to carry just one slim gadget that will fit into the side pocket of any bag!)
  • There are a lot of other features that will also (technically) save me money – I don’t have to buy bookmarks since those come built into the eBook reader. Also if I have to refer to the dictionary or encyclopedia I don’t have to refer to separate books; the reference facility is built into the eBook reader.  I don’t have to spoil my books if I want to mark passages, make annotations or my own remarks in pen (as I would have to in paper books)
  • I can read it anywhere (as against reading from any other gadget such as a laptop) even in bright sunlight!

So on my wish list, currently, is the eBook reader; if readers have any specific tips about buying one, I would appreciate them!
