Green Shopping Tips

As the evidence of the way in which humans are exploiting the planted become more and more evident, concerned and responsible citizens have to try and make that little effort to go green – to make sustainable choices when shopping and making the effort to consume in a manner that minimally impacts the Earth.

The EPA website offers these general guidelines for conserving resources, saving energy and preventing waste by choosing the following products when you go shopping –

  • Energy efficient products so it consumes fewer resources to use or run
  • Used or reusable items so that you are maximizing the use of an item before you consign it to the rubbish heap
  • Products made with recycled materials or at least products that are possible to recycle.
  • Products that use little of no packaging. As soon as you remove the packaging of a product you create waste, because it is that part of the product that is consigned immediately to the garbage bin.

Economic Impact of the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami

We have all seen the harrowing images on TV that looked like something out of a Hollywood disaster movie so we know the incalculable and incredibly tragic human loss and suffering that has been caused by the 11 March 2011, Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Don’t forget to ask for Senior Discount

If you are on the wrong side of 60 or even 50, (read on if you have a close friend or relative that age), this can entitle the senior person to a number of different kinds of discounts – there is no need to be diffident or ashamed to demand these since these discounts are yours by right! So own up proudly to the age that you’re at, and demand these discounts –

  • Most theaters offer discounts to people who are over the age of 55. Usually a discount of about 30% is to be had. Regal Cinemas also offer movie ticket discounts to people over 60.
  • Rail and bus travel also offers discounts for people over 62 years of age. With some exceptions, Amtrak offers daily discounts of about 15% and Greyhound offers 5% discount to everyone over 62. National Car Rental also offers discounts for people over 50.
  • Many restaurants such as Arby’s fast food, Wendy’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and so on offer seniors discount. Arby’s and Wendy’s offer 10% discount to people over 55, Burger King will be cheaper by 10% for people over 60, Taco Bell gives seniors free drinks at certain locations, and McDonald’s offers seniors discounted coffee every day.

Discounted DVD Players

The thing with electronic items is that the better they get, the more quickly previous models become obsolete. When we bought our DVD player about 5 to 6 years back, we didn’t think how important it was going to become, to have a DVD player with USB support. As of now, we download films and have the option of watching them on the limited little screen of the computer or laptop or undergoing the labors of writing a CD and then playing it on the DVD (if the DVD player supports that particular format that is).

So basically I am looking to upgrade our DVD player.

I found this Samsung – Internet Connectable/Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Disc Player which I thought was a good deal  at 188 dollars, which is down from 250 dollars. This one is internet connectable with Wi Fi. This gives access to streaming content, firmware updates, and so that you can connects to Youtube, Netflix, Twitter, Cinema Now, Facebook, Blockbuster and so on. A variety of media choices and playable formats are available on here. Also there are Dolby Digital and DTS decoders.

Reliable Auto Transport Services

My neighbors daughter is going off to college soon. She has been worried sick, the protective mother that she is. I have been helping her get around the emotional upheaval and do what needs to be done. We’ve been shopping and packing and planning all through the last few weeks. Amongst other things, one big concern was getting her car shipped to Berkeley, California. As usual, I offered to do the online research to find her just the right company for the job. And I did!!

Amongst all the service providers I checked, American Auto Transport had the best track record. They have been in business for over 20 years, and the number of satisfied customers has grown over the period. They are known for great customer service, and have branches all across the country. They transport in better time than other companies and have very competitive rates. And what is more, they are patriotic too! They offer great discounts for military transports. They offer open and enclosed car shipping, and many people swear by the prim and proper condition in which their vehicle is delivered. They offer vehicle tracking while being shipped. They move all kinds of vehicles all across the country including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico too.

My cousin in Texas also used their Texas Auto Transport, and highly recommends their service. He had earlier burnt his fingers with two other movers, who did not turn up to even pick up the car on the promised date. He was completely satisfied with the services offered by AAT. Now, for my neighbor to move her daughter’s car from Florida to California, I am going to recommend she uses their Auto Transport Florida service. American Auto Transport has created a name for itself in the industry and anyone in love with their car should put it in their safe hands.
