I am of a mind to revamp my entire kitchen, and in for the kind of cookware that looks good and is pleasure to cook with. I did a post about this a long time ago and the subject can do with some updating I think. I finished reading my regular blogs and every time I visit stephenfung.net, I end up feeling hungry and longing for some tasty treats, so you can say that it was Stephen Fung that inspired me to do this post.

Ok the reason that I am such a great cook (so I have been told repeatedly; it’s not just my own conceit speaking), is for two reasons: I love good food and I am self taught. If there is a particular dish that I like to eat, I teach myself to cook it. And there is this incredible resource which gives you every recipe you can possibly dream of and that is the World Wide Web. For years now, I have not bought a recipe book; simply because any recipe that I want I can find on the internet free of charge! And the really good thing is that you can browse by cuisine, calorie, snacks, desert, main course or just about any criterion.

Supposedly all men are created equal but that is not true for drugs and medications. Different brands of the same drug will offer you the same formulation at different prices and under separate brand names. It all tends to depend upon your doctor and how he prescribes your medication. It is a bit of a secret of the medical profession that generic (read cheaper) drugs will do the job as well as their more expensive branded counterparts.

In fact generic medications are required by the FDA to have the same formulations, strength and efficacy as branded drugs. The reason that generic drugs are so much cheaper is because the manufactures of the generic varieties did not have to undertake the expense of research and development and as such can afford to sell the drugs cheaper. My very good friend is pregnant and she is terrified of several things: the unknown (this is her first time), or not knowing what to do, birthing pains, of losing her lissome shape, and several other things. So I decided to lend her a helping hand with things (some of them anyway, there is no painless way to have a baby, so she will just have to bear with that).

First I registered her with ivillage’s weekly pregnancy guide. This will give her a weekly update of what is happening with her and her baby, via email. So now she knows that her baby is the size of a cherry at week 8 of her pregnancy; not so terrifying after all!

Next I nudged her in the direction of this really cool site for Stylish Maternity Wear. At first I was a little puzzled at the name; what does an erotic dance form have to do with pregnancy and maternity! Then I thought about it a bit: after all a pregnant belly does ‘dance’ a bit J. She could choose from maternity clothes by several designers, diaper bags etc. And some of the stuff was on sale so I was definitely interested! Since one of her chief worries was getting big and losing her shape, I was able to allay her misgivings with some really smart maternity clothes I found on the site.

Like I keep saying, that which is good for the environment is also good for us and our finances. And that is even more so when you consider that environment friendly decisions can get you some very useful tax cuts. Although global oil prices have eased a great deal since I did a post about tips to save gas, it still pays to be energy efficient in terms of your home: heating, cooling, insulation, etc. not only for the savings in terms of the energy consumption bills but also in terms of the tax credits you get.

The reason that the government gives you tax breaks is so that you are encouraged to make purchases that reduce energy consumption on the whole, lowering pressure on grids and helping you reduce you carbon footprint and therefore lowering emission and pollution levels.
