Just wanted to point out, when your hard drive is down, do NOT take it somewhere else to get repaired. If you have a close, trustworthy friend, you can see about getting them to do it, but I myself used to work for Geek Squad and let me tell you, while I personally have morals and didn't engage in this myself, most of my coworkers really WERE just perverts who spent all those extra days they "need" to look at everyone's computer to scour their drives for amateur porn or revealing pictures of their customers.

They seemed to get quite a thrill when an attractive woman walked in with computer problems, take her money to fix it, and then download her personal (usually nude) photos onto their usb thumbdrives.

Of course, some of you may or may not do anything like this, but most younger people do take pictures of themselves and/or their partners in revealing poses or situations, so keep in mind that anything on your computer is open to finding to somewhat who knows what they're doing.

That's awful. Did you try recovering the data? I know you had the original data, but maybe this could be a good experiment to see if the data recovery process actually works in such a situation.

I had a Maxtor hard drive that completely crashed a while back. I lost everything: pictures, music, videos. It was awful. Luckily I had it "backed up" on my actual computer, but it was stupid because the Maxtor was supposed to be the back up.
