Well I am a blogger right? So needless to say, language interests me greatly, and I like to think that I have a not inconsiderable vocabulary (I know words like eldritch, egregious, pasquinade and I could go on but I don’t want to show off ). Now I know that this has nothing to do with bargain hunting and great prices here, but the fact is that there are all these FREE resources out there, that if you don’t know about, you can’t take advantage of, and that would be a shame now, wouldn’t it? For instance, all these resources will save you having to ever buy another dictionary or thesaurus again, so that is a great saving!

There are a lot of online resources that can help us to improve our vocabulary and language skills, all for free. Did you, for instance, know that you can improve your vocabulary by signing up to receive a word and its meaning everyday delivered daily to your email inbox? One word, along with its meaning, origin, usage, variations, pronunciation (including audio pronunciation) is emailed to you each day. You can sign up to receive the word of the day here, and also browse to find the meaning of any word. Wordsmith.org has a similar daily newsletter which teaches you a word a day and has an anagram server as well.

Do you recycle? Well I do and let me tell you, it gives me a lot of satisfaction! To know that you try to do your bit for the environment is a good feeling! And I don’t think I mentioned it before, but I recently bought me an electric scooter and I love, love, love it! Electric vehicles are such a green thing too!

This Glow-in-the-dark light bulb encased in a solid acrylic brick, is charged by absorbing light during the day and releasing it at night. It is not cheap at $30.99 but since it uses no electricity or anything it does kind of pay for itself.

It is time for another list…. Don’t you just love lists? Even if you don’t you perhaps know that I adore lists! Top 10, most powerful, most famous, richest, I find these lists fascinating. This time I wanted to do a list of the top celebrities according to Forbes.

Rather predictably, the top, most powerful celebrity is Oprah Winfrey, in terms of pay, web rank, press rank and TV/radio rank. With her daytime talk show, satellite radio show, magazine and Broadway musical the media queen is the most influential and powerful celeb around.

Greetings friends! Do any of you still go to the card shop and actually buy greetings? As in printed on paper and in an envelope? Well I stopped doing that a while ago. E cards or e greeting is the way to go: quick, easy and best of all free! The hitch however is how do you send e greetings to a mom who steadfastly refuses to have anything remotely connected to a computer or the internet? Or to the grand mom who cherishes every card, letter or note that you sent her and would be hurt if you missed sending her a proper greeting on her upcoming birthday? Well there are sites that allow you to print cards so you can send them by snail mail just as if you went out to the store and bought the card.

Those of us who have pets know that a pet is pretty much a part of the family and as part of the family we want what is best for our pet. A pet’s needs are not many: food, immunization, accessories etc (for which we shall attempt to find good discounts) and of course lots of love (which cannot be bought and for which therefore we cannot go bargain hunting).

If you remember, I did a post a few days back about digital cameras, but somehow I felt that it was kind of incomplete without doing a roundup of all the camcorders, or movie cameras or digital video recorders or handycams, call them what you will. Fact is I don’t have one, and what holiday is complete without holiday movies for heaven’s sake! How can I show my face at a tourist spot without a handycam in tow duly forming extension of arm!

Time was it was the Japanese who were seen in every nook and cranny of a tourist spot, sporting the latest, the tiniest, the most sophisticated cameras ever, wide smile unwaveringly fixed in place, but now pretty much everyone seems to have one, so why not me, I say! Let’s explore the possibilities shall we?

I don’t want anything too fancy (or complicated), just something that will help me capture when the kids do or say something really funny or something to shoot the animals at the zoo with; you know the kind of thing? OK now I looked for ‘Handycam’ and all I came up with is Sony models; how perplexing I thought! Then the penny dropped, Handycam is a trade mark name, much like ‘Walkman’ both of which are now pretty much generic. Duh!

When I go to the shops to buy shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins, gels, sprays, whatever, nothing ever seems to be available on discount. Normally I like to smell any hair product that I am thinking of buying and I buy it only if it smells really, really nice. But I am willing to forgo that luxury and buy online if that will fetch me some decent discounts.

Here I found some discounts on hair products such as this conditioning shampoo for men from Nautica for $7.70 down from the retail price of $15. Then this shampoo for colored hair is on a whopping 74% discount and is available for just $6.45. This Elizabeth Arden green tea conditioner also I thought was a good deal for $11.48 at a 36% discount.
